Our kindergarten students recently embarked on their annual community field trip. They visited the Southborough library, public service buildings, and the food bank—experiencing firsthand the many parts that come together to make a strong, caring community.
This trip is an important part of the Kindergarten team’s work in helping students understand what a community is made of and the many ways people contribute.
In class, students explored this idea through a joyful and engaging read-aloud of Whose Hands Are These?. The story invites children to think about the many ways hands can help—mixing, building, fixing, and caring—and challenges them to guess different community jobs based on actions. Students made wonderful connections between the book and their real-world experiences. They recognized familiar community helpers like police officers, doctors, and teachers—serving as “mirrors” of what they already know. Please check out some of the photos below.
Also, as we get close to the end of our 1st year piloting the Lunch Program Partnership with Whitsons' Foods, we'd love your feedback. Info below.
Important Reminders:
-
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on April 16th and 17th. We look forward to connecting with you and celebrating your child’s growth and progress.
-
Finn’s Annual Book Fair (April 6–10) Thank you SOS for putting this together and for all the many purchases. While the in-person event has concluded, the book fair is still available online for families who would like to continue exploring great books together.
- And as I mentioned last week, please consider attending the Kickin’ It for Kasey fundraiser carnival at Algonquin Sunday, April 12th at 11:00am. This event supports an important cause—raising funds for brain cancer research—and is a great way to come together as a community.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students as they learn, explore, and grow. There’s something special happening when young learners begin to see themselves as future contributors to their world—and this was one of those moments.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and enjoy the beautiful weather.
